hi everyone, I'm new to this site and I've been very thankful, interested and inspired to hear about other people's experiences. Today I have a tough question and I'm hoping for some advice.

My problem is that my prolapse is playing havoc with my marriage. its not helping that I've been depressed and very up and down emotionally since being diagnosed a few months ago. Getting through the day is sometimes a major struggle. I just feel old and like damaged goods and unfeminine, not to mention that there are the physical issues of splinting and fear with urgency that one day I may not make it to the toilet in time, also fear of what is around the corner - if it's going to get worse and what then. It's a sense of stress and anxiety all the time, plus it tires me out.

To my husband - who naturally doesn't know what its like to experience a prolapse - I guess this just looks like grumpy, lazy and negative behaviour.

The worse was last night when - trying to give helpful suggestions - he told me my prolapse may be my fault, that "lifestyle factors" could have played a part, because I'm "lazy" and don't eat well and don't have a positive attitude. He is not wrong entirely, I do love lying around on the couch and I love chocolate to a fairly outrageous degree, which probably didn't help me have the strength to safely deliver our daughter.

But I still felt - and feel now - really really hurt. I can see that he doesn't understand where I'm at - not even a little bit. How serious it is. How hard and challenging it can be to just do very simple basic activities like carrying a basket of wet washing; that picking up a wriggly active 11kg toddler 50 times a day makes me feel my organs are going to drop out and my back is killing me because I have no support from my pelvic floor or abs. lately he's also told me I complain too much, that I've been down since becoming a mum because I can't lie around as much, and that I'm weak in character. His actual words were "there's not much to you, is there?"

Just a side note - it may not sound like it, but this is a genuinely loving and normally respectful guy, very helpful doing tonnes of housework and cooking all the time.

But I think he hasn't had any experience of his body giving out on him and the powerlessness and fear that comes with that. As a man he's used to feeling strong physically and if he wants something done, he does it easily without thinking. He doesn't know how frightening and upsetting it can be when your most intimate parts are changed forever and you're worried your organs are going to come out. Also he sees it as noble to keep problems to yourself and not burden other people with them - the flipside being that talking about issues is "complaining" and unfair on others (whereas to me, not telling him about my troubles creates a barrier and causes us to live more and more separate lives.)

The other complicating factor is I have just discovered I'm pregnant with my 2nd, meaning months of uncertainty ahead and of course, there is the birth to consider, and its possible impacts.

I don't know what to do . Don't know what I can say to help him see how it is for me. Or maybe i should just let him keep thinking the way he does and soldier on and try to ignore his attitude? After all, there are 'man' things that we women will never 'get'; maybe this is one of those things men can't grasp.

What worries me about doing that is I'm sure that the wedge between us is only going to grow if I am not telling him what is happening to me. But then , if I do tell him, Im complaining more, and he will judge me all the more harshly.

The other issues are that our physical intimacy has suffered with me feeling very insecure and very self-conscious about sex now; also that we haven't had much quality time together post-baby and my stepdaughter (his daughter from his first marriage) has just moved in, meaning less time overall.

Has anyone else had husband troubles after prolapse?

I would be so glad for any thoughts from anyone. If it has happened to you, what did you do? Does it get better down the track? Are there tactful ways, or clearer ways to explain to men how it feels?

Apologies for the long and rambly post. It's just that I feel really down and sad and awful today, and I don't know anyone I can talk to openly about this.

Since 2 weeks I have awful anal feeling of heaviness, pressure in my rectal area. I feel like I have to go number 2 but i know there is nothing to poo
It's exactly like you're fully dilated at 10cm and you are feeling you have to go number 2 but you know it's not that

I know it's hard to explain..

I did talk to that with my PT on friday she did a full exam of my vagina and rectum (not fun but i needed to know)

She tell me i have no rectocel (???) that's good news but where this feeling came from??

She said she don't know and the only thing shw could think would be so like nerve damage (not exactly that but i don't know how to say it) and she did a special treatment with her e-stim machin

Just want to know if any of you have ever felt that way?

I also have another question for stage 1 uterus prolapse
My uterus is a full finger inside, mean if i put my whole finger in my vagina it is there (i really have small hand thought)
Is it a stage 1?
I know it's not a big difference, just wondering

triomama on "C section or vaginal delivery"

I am 42. This is my third pregnancy. I am 31 weeks now. With my son I had bad tearing and I was fecal incontinent for 8 weeks pp.The doctor told me is not from the delivery. I will be better. After my daughter was born, I found out I have cystocele and rectocele stage 2+ prolapse vaginal walls... I was devastated since in the same time they found I have 2 bulging disks in my lombar area that will not explain all my body left side pain for over 2 years now. I asked for a C section before my daughter was born. They told me I should not be worse. The damage was done at the first delivery. I did not have symptoms of POP before second pregnancy. Maybe I have a mild degree of prolapse that did not bother me. Both my children where big (almost 9 lbs ) and they have big head circumference.
I trust them but the labor was very hard comparing with the first one.I had bad diastasis recti and they could not find my cervix easy . It was out of alignment withe the vaginal canal and my daugher head was tucked under may tail bone. They were planing a C section after 13 hours of labour but they changed their mind in the last minute and put me to push with all my might! I felt so weak I barely pushed my daughter out... I tear bad again.
I cannot decide between C section and natural birth for number 3. I am sure I have some sort of uterine prolapse already since I could see my cervix low before. This is probably my last child. I just ask for some advice. I now that after delivery my POP will be bad again. I know I have no pelvic floor strengh since I cannot do Kegels for more than 2 seconds. I feel I cannot push the baby out so weak.

Finally got to see a physiotherapist who specializes in pelvic floor problems today (seems they are in high demand!). Although she was very focused on continence issues and I have not really been having problems with this, the visit was still very helpful. She was happy I'm using the Kegel8, but advised me to do 'manual' kegels as well and also to work with the kegel8 as I am doing the kegels correctly. She kept the sheet with my details, but I'm pretty sure she ranked my kegel strength in different areas as 2-3, so room for improvement! Apparently the biggest weakness in actually my anal sphincter, so I'm supposed to do kegels focusing in the 3 different shincters individually. She said I have a hole (avulsion?) on the right wall, but said that by bulking up the surrounding muscles, there could be general improvement and the prolapse might be held up a bit. Surprisingly, she didn't think the (standing) position of my cervix was too bad (almost her full finger length), which was encouraging as this had been really worrying me. I'd been feeling improvement with my symptoms, but still feeling concerned that if my cervix hadn't lifted by now (4-5 months) it's not going to.

She also mentioned that the BCP I'm on is somewhat de-estrogenizing, but that I seemed 'healthy' down there and the vaginal walls not too thin or dry. We talked about the pain I sometimes experience during / after intercourse (depending on position I think this is either my perennial scar or my cervix) and I'm reassured that no damage is being done and it's important to relax. She advised even distracting the muscles if I start to feel a little pain. As someone who had come to really enjoy sex in my 30s and was able to vaginally orgasm before childbirth (not at the moment), regaining proper sexual function is very important to me. But she did give me some mental strategies and hopefully this can improve too. Has anyone had postpartum issues with this that have resolved post 4-5 months.

Overall, it was a good visit. I go back in about a month. Sticking with it all. Still doing HabIt (started including the advanced workout, no 4) and always feel better when I do these exercises.

Had surgery for bladder prolapse 3 weeks ago. It failed after 2 weeks. Am so upset. I have been reading info on this forum site and am so angry with myself for not reading up more before surgery. Have had biomesh fitted. Can't get hold of surgeon and no-one seems to be able to tell me what happens next.
Am 49 and have three childre, aged 15, 17 and19. Am also hypermobile which seems to be a factor in some cases. Could this be why it failed so quickly? All anyone has said to me is that they have never heard of a prolapse failing so quickly.

I am worried my girl will come too soon since I have so many contractions every day.
With other 2 kids I had preterm labor but I did not effaced earlier than 37 weeks. I know baby lungs are not mature yet. Please let me know if any of you experience this problem

Hello Linda,
I just read your post supporting Fi. I was really hoping you might share something with the forum. I am wondering what kinds of tests and scans your doctor performed prior to your surgery in order to fully assess the status of your pelvic floor supports. Was it possible that there was already some weakening of your posterior wall and ligaments/uterine supports prior to the surgery that may have been identified through testing prior to your surgery! I think it is just awful that all they fixed was your bladder, of course because it was certainly the most prominent prolapse, but now you are finding so many other weaknesses in your pelvic floor. I would hope with a second surgery, if at all possible, that all weaknesses could be identified and fixed in one further surgery!
We have so much to be blessed for in our lives, I agree..... Your outlook is amazing and one to be envied!!! I am happy you are sharing your experience with us all, as I am sure many of us will one day go through surgery as well! I know I most likely will.......my poor muscles.....will one day entirely give way......my work can only keep them up for so long!
Thanks

Hello ladies,

6 months after my girl was born I discovered the stage 2 prolapse bladder and bowel plus mild uterine prolapse. OB doctor sent me to a PT specialist who scared the pants off me...She told me I have no hope; I am stage 4 and I need surgery + I have 0 strength of the pelvic floor. I was crying for months until I saw the best urogynecologist in our area. He was optimistic with the stage 2 prolapse and did not push surgery. In his opinion, depends on the patient when they decide for surgery. Everyone is different as symptoms and how prolapse affects their whole being. I decided to try to manage my symptoms as long as I can and avoid the surgery.
But I cannot go back to physical therapy ( cost + my husband needs to take time off work to take me there; I am home with the kids ). I know that e-stim or biofeedback can help with pelvic floor weakness (but my old PT said it will just ameliorate my symptoms), but is invasive and I prefer to do it by myself. I order a Kegel 8 Ultra machine and Tasha dvd. It is Kegel 8 a kind of e-stim device?
How soon I can use it after my third baby is born in July? Do I need to buy an e-stim machine for home use?
Can I use Tasha dvd now? I am 32 weeks pregnant.

Thank you for your opinions.

I am 3 1/2 weeks PP. I delivered a 9lb "little" girl via VBAC after two previous C sections. Overall, a fast and easy labor. I ordered the Hab it DVD just because I knew my pelvic floor could use some help. After hearing Tasha say prolapse I decided to google it. FINALLY, I can explain the feeling that I have a tampon falling out.

I was/am devastated. I went to the doctor and he was not concerned at all. He said "nothing is falling out" and that I should be better in two to three months. I had to even ask him if it was a prolapse. He said yes that it was mild prolapse of vaginal walls and bladder. My appointment was two days ago. Yesterday, last night and today I have VERY heavy bleeding. It's almost like I have a period though I am sure I don't because I'm still breastfeeding and so early PP.

The bleeding seems to be coming from two places, vaginally and towards my anus. I do have bad hemroids, too, but have never had them bleed like this. My BM are actually fine and easy to deal with! The only positive thing I have going on down there right now.

Do you think the bleeding is from the exam? Also, I have another follow up in 2.5 weeks for my 6 week PP check up. Should I wait to see what he says again or move forward and try to find a specialist? Should I continue with the Hab It DVD while bleeding and in more pain?

Thanks for your help.

Well first it would be important to have more information about yourself, what kind of prolapse do you have, if you have a lot of symptom or not

But in general, from what i have read and know about exercice and prolapse :

It would be better to swin than running and jogging because those are high impact activity that can make your prolapse worse, particullary if your pelvic floor is very weak
As for the weight training, do you have more symptom when doing it?
Maybe someone more experienced than me can answer you about this but if i were you i would ask a PT before doing those to be sure it's safe

Good luck

I am 67 - a uterine prolapse - and some tearing in the muscle wall. I have self managed probably for 20 odd years but have possibly got a little tired of the regime.
Now I have a hysterectomy booked and this has galvanised me. Galvanised me to do anything at all to avoid the knife, that is. I have 3 months and want to work hard at seeing if i can bring this under control.

Oh - 3 children. two by the time i was 21 and another at 40. A big fellow at 8lbs and i think he was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I use a brace which i find very helpful. I tried a pessary once and hated it. But i would like to revisit that option. Can anyone suggest where i might go in Sydney to a sympathetic practitioner who would take the time to see if we could find a device to suit. I did not give the first one a fair trial. And don't want to discount pessaries entirely.

Now pelvic floor exercises. I am more than willing to give these another shot as the prolapse is quite dynamic. Up and down. And i can influence it. But by the day's end gravity has usually won. So, suggestions please to a pelvic floor workout and i am more than happy to buy a recommended dvd.

I use a Fembrace -- anybody know where i can buy similar here in Australia. Fembrace is without doubt the worst company in the world to deal with and will not post to an Australian resident. Neither will they answer correspondence.

I have just found this site this morning and plan to work my way through it steadily as i can see it is a goldmine. But meantime someone may relate to what i am saying and extend the helping hand.

Hi I thought I would post this as inspiration for anyone else new who comes on here with a "cele". I am not cured by any means. However, I have had a lot of improvement since 5 weeks post partum when I first came on to post. I am 8 weeks post partum and my cystocele which was documented down as a stage 2 is now barely a stage 1 according to the uro-gyn and the midwife who delivered my baby. It's more like saggy skin and not a bulge. My midwife also couldn't even detect my stage 1 uterine prolapse (I know it's there but it makes me feel good that it's so minor, a specialist has to see it) Also no more stress incontinence AT ALL. I would like to thank kegels (LOL), the hab-it DVD, (Tasha you are so great, would love to talk to you sometime!) chiropractics, estrace cream and weight loss--once I lost the 50 lbs I gained from pregnancy, everything sort of started to snap back--except I am left with an ugly urethrocele which all the doctors say isn't bad but it looks odd to me. Anyway just wanted to post this. I hope to see more improvement in the coming year (would love for the urethrocele to look better!) Hope you all are well and recovering as well (mentally and physically) Hugs--Erica

I'm holding off a bit on ordering a Kegal8 until I meet with the PT, but want to be ready. Being proactive helps me deal with this whole issue. Anyhow, I was wondering about the kegal8 choices and have read through some threads about the subject. I still have a question. What about the one that has an anal probe? Does that help a slight rectal prolapse? My bladder prolapse as of now is more significant with a slight rectal prolapse. My cervix is lower than normal, but I'm only 4 weeks PP and breastfeeding a little with supplement, so it may be normal. I'm having trouble establishing regularity, though neither really constipated and no issues leaking BMs. I was wondering if the Kegal8 with the anal probe will help with regularity or if that is overkill and I should just go with the ultra.

ok, i've read lots of blogs and mostly every woman here say that they found they had a prolapse shortly after having a baby. well i have 3 children 22, 19 and 9 yrs last summer i found out of the blue that i had 2 "balled" shaped things in my vagina, finally after going to a doctor that said i was totally normal i started looking up things and got to the conclution that i have a rectocele and a cystocele, months later i went to another doctor that confermed this, he said the rectocele was type I-II and the cystocele type II-III. i have pain during sex so i stopped that. the doctor didn't help much i asked him what i could do, and he said wait till your in menopause and we will opperate. i', almost 42 i do want to have a normal sexual life. is it normal that everything just falls out of place just like that from one day to the other, like i said my last child was almost 10 years ago

Hi everyone, I had an anterior post repair and a TOT 8 weeks ago. I am 59. I had a hysterectomy 27 years ago for a prolapsed uterus. My surgeon is supposed to be one of the best (in Toronto at Sunnybrook) So far so good, I had little pain, almost none, very little bleeding and discharge. My doctor told me not to do much of anything for 6 months, no vacuuming, no gardening, no lifting over 10 pounds for the rest of my life. I had a cough last week and had to get prescription syrup because she said a cough could ruin the operation. I am so worried about everything falling apart. I live alone in a cottage. Thank God my neighbours help me out. I haven't got a sexual partner right now, but I still have a sex drive and if I ever meet anyone, well I want to have sex. My doctor asked if sex was important to me. Anyway for the past two days my stomach feels a bit strange and tight. Is this normal? I guess I should call her and find out. I did a lot of research before I had the operation because I was worried about the mesh and the class action suits in the states. She said she doesn't use the same mesh as the states and her procedure is not as invasive and doesnt' use as much mesh. I would appreciate hearing anyone else's experience.

thanks, Pam

Hey girls!
Just wanted to get on here and let you know I had my baby girl last week! Heres my story:

I was having a ton of pelvic pain and pressure for weeks and was dilated to a 5 with baby sitting low. I was like this similarly with my son and went past 40 weeks. I think the last 5 weeks of his pregnancy is when I did the most damage as far as prolapse because it manifested itself then. Anyway, this time my PT really wanted me to be induced so that I wouldn't put so much strain on my pelvic floor. I took it very easy the last few weeks.

We made it past 37 weeks and decided we would see if baby was ready to come at 38 weeks. So at my 38 week apt we stripped my membranes and I drank some cohosh to see if that would get things going. Just a few hours later I was having contractions that I knew were the real thing so we went back to the birthing center. I had talked extensively with my PT about pushing techniques during labor, and it was her opinion that a faster pushing phase would be optimal for me as that would strain the muscles less. With my son I basically tried to kegal my way through contractions so he would come out slowly and I wouldn't tear. She recommended that this time I breathe baby out and just let her come. She said a small tear would probably be better for me in the end then a very strained pelvic floor.

My midwife asked me if we wanted to break my bag of waters as she suspected it would really speed labor along. I knew I wanted to do this but I also knew it would be intense. It was a crazy strong bag. Full blown labor promptly ensued. My entire pregnancy I have been terrified of giving birth again and the effect it and the pregnancy would have on my prolapse. Finally I just had to give in to it all. Earlier in the day I told myself " you are going to have to do this whether you want to or not so you might as well Do It. Do it my very best and not let fear take over and the situation control me." so I totally gave in and relaxed through the contractions and immediately they were less painful and I could get thought them just fine. It was really humbling for me. Less than an hour later though, all of the sudden my body started to push out my baby. I could not believe how quickly this was and told my midwife right away that I had pushed oh the last contraction. The next one came and my body was pushing hard. I sort of panicked because I wanted to slowly breathe her out and she wasn't having it that way. So I kegaled and tried to slow it down. Immediately my mind said "wait! No! Just relax and let her come!" so I did and. Boom! Her head was out forcefully in an instant. One contraction later and she was here. It was insane.

I was so so so afraid I had a 3rd or 4th degree tear from her arrival but in the end I tore only in the same spot where I had torn with my son, a surface tear 1st degree and slightly smaller tear than the first time. I was so hopeful I wouldn't tear at all but after experiencing her arrival I was relieved.

So far the recovery has been tons better than with my first. One result of the short pushing phase it that I can still hold my urine, even in the bath tub, NO WAY could I do that with my first.. I can actually do a kegal. It took me months to be able to do this with my first also. So I'm hoping these are good signs that things are going to be ok down there. I haven't checked my prolapse and don't really plan on it until 6 weeks or more postpartum as I know how fragile emotions are during this time and I just want to enjoy my life and baby and try not to get caught and depressed.

My current plan for recovery is doing kegals on a wedge pillow so my pelvis is tilted/elevated. I have the tupler splint and am thinking of starting that to get my stomach muscles stronger so they'll play a more helpful role in my pelvic basket not sure when to start hab-it. Plan on starting swimming 6 to 8 weeks postpartum as well as kegal8 then too. Do you think I could do the kegal8 earlier once I'm done bleeding? Or is 8 weeks kind of the standard? Any other recovery tips/advice greatly appreciated.

I am so so grateful to be a mom and that my body was able to bring this miraculous baby here. Thank you all for being here for me throughout this pregnancy. I'm nervous to see what the result of it all will be on my prolapse but feel really grateful I have this community of support. I'll let you know how it goes.

Also, I tried to change my name on here as newmom is hard to distinguish. Sending lots of love and prayers to newmama for a wonderful birth and recovery. And congratulations to all you newly pregnant girls. You can do it!

I delivered the last 2 children in the hospital on my back with the knees to my chest. I was asked to push with each contraction. My tummy muscles sore so bad all over after that pushing. I did not decide for C section yet with the third child. In case I go for vaginal delivery I want to have the option to not push again. I had bad diastasis recti, cystocele and rectocele stage 2 and mild uterine prolapse. I am afraid my bladder will come out before baby's head. The last 2 deliveries I had epidural too. This time I want to go so far I can unmedicated. Any suggestions how to deliver without pushing? How you breathe the baby out? Any pain management solutions with no drugs?
Thank you for your support.

August I was told I had a rectocele and fallen bladder and as I was ok with dealing with it myself naturally without surgery I now have just felt my bladder as it is about a finger and a half legth inside my vagina and I feel like a dimple or hole like feeling... There isn't really a hole on the skin itself where the bladder is but when i push on it gently I can feel it push in and I don't want to poke too hard because I don't want to puncture it. I will be seeing my doctor next week but until then I am having anxiety trying to figure out what it could be. I was reading about bladder fustulas but I am not leaking any urine because well I don't have a real hole there only the feeling of a hole when pushing on the skin itself where the bladder wall is. I know this wasn't there about a week ago because I am always checking myself usually weekly to see where my bladder is sitting. Anyone know what this is or heard of anything like this???

I had surgery about 3 years ago on my bladder and had the sling put in, now I just had another surgery this year to takes parts of it off so I could get rid of the severe pain I am having in my vaginal area for the past 2 and half years and this surgery didn't work either. Now I am having the same severe pain and the doctor is saying I may have to have more reconstructive surgery on my bladder but don't want to do it cause I have a 50/50 chance of bleeding to death. I have no idea what to do and I should have a great lawsuit here cause I am in constant pain, and I am still wetting myself and I have to wear pads so I can keep my clothes. This is not right, I went in for a simple surgery and all it has caused me is grieve. Does anyone out there know who I can contact about these lawsuits so I can tell my story to and get involved so no one else gets this done to them. Please help I live in Canada and they are suppose to have some lawsuits going to here.

Hi everyone, I got a rectocele grade 3 and cystocele grade 2 after having my now 18 month old. Now I'm considering trying to make her a sibling, but scared stiff of delivery that it will cause awful problems on top of what I have already. Was wondering if anyone knew of a midwife working in Sydney Australia, who specialises in helping women give birth after prolapse?

Just got home from my 2-week check-up after DNC and hysterscopy.

I should say I'm going to the University of Oklahoma Female Pelvic and Bladder Health Center. They're one of the tops in U.S. uro-gynecology. They're doing alot of new innovative work in the field. It happens to be near where I live and, surprisingly, my insurance is allowing it. They have a physical therapist on staff, though the Dr. doesn't think I need that at this point. We, do, differ on whether Kegels help or not - have given her info about the Hab-it exercises. The center is very much against surgery, except as a last resort and have been developing new types of surgery for that. I really like and trust the Dr. and feel comfortable, BUT

She says everything looks good and I may not have anymore spotting, or other symptoms. but she feels I should be weaned off HRT over a period of months as hormone imbalance is what is causing my symptoms. We'll wait until September, after the heat of summer, as lowering and coming off HRT may cause menopausal symptoms like hot flashes or night sweats. I never experienced those and am not eager to do so now. Though - she does say that may not happen.

I guess I never thought about coming entirely off HRT. Why do they give it in the first place if you can't keep taking it??? Dr. says HRT wasn't meant to be used for long periods of time, only to get past the severest sypmtoms of menopause. (But if I'm going to have some of them now, what was the point?) She says women's bodies need less estrogen as they get older and that the body makes some of it's own, so to take HRT at this age can cause imbalance, as well as a greater risk for various types of cancer.

I began taking estradiol and prometrium, plus vaginal cream (premarin, now and Estrace compounded formula) about 10 years ago, at the beginning of menopause when I was having excruciating headaches. Now, I don't want headaches again or the "age" things that may come from being totally off hormones AND I'm really afraid being totally off will cause the prolapses to get worse. Dr. says the "age" things will happen anyway, can't stop that. And says I'd continue with the cream for vaginal atrophy (an ugly term for dryness and shrinking) and we'll try a pessary (next week I go in for that). If the pessary doesn't work for me, the Med-Center is developing a new type of girdle supposed to be much more comfortable than a V-brace. (I can sign up to be in their study to try it.) She doesn't think being off hormones will make the prolapse worse as it may or may not get worse in time, anyway.

I'm really torn about this. Don't want to continue the sypmptoms I'm having, but certainly don't want the prolapses to get worse. Will they? Any thoughts?
